Description

The Df(3R)abd-Aiab4,5-DB break lies at the 3' end of the iab-4 transcription unit.

DNA deletion from +83 to +113, extending into Abd-B sequences.

Deletion removes region between coordinates +85 and +113, removing 28kb.

85-113 kb deleted (Karch, Weiffenbach, Peifer, Bender, Duncan, Celniker, Crosby and Lewis, 1985)

Detailed Description

Gonadal precursors do not coalesce into a gonad. Pole cells are released from the stalled gonadal precursors and are scattered throughout the embryo.

Segments A6 and A7 show a more posterior identity when heterozygous with Abd-B- than when hemizygous.

In homozygous adult males the fifth abdominal segment appears to be partially transformed towards A4.

Hemizygotes show A1 is slightly modified towards a more posterior segment, transformation is stronger in homozygotes. In males the A5 tergite is depigmented and resembles A4.

Homozygous males show a transformation of the fourth and fifth abdominal segments into the third.

Mutations in iab-4 have effects on the abd-A transcription unit, so such mutations are considered to be simultaneously mutant for iab-4 and abd-A.

Sterility is complemented by Abd-Biab5-301, Abd-BM1 and Abd-BStP20.
