Dr1 mutant flies exhibit dominant reduced-eye phenotypes that are sensitive to variation in genetic background. The difference in eye size between males and females is similar to that seen in wild type.
Heterozygous flies show a normal activity profile in an open field arena over a 10-minute assay.
Heterozygotes show a severe reduction in eye size.
Severe disruption of eye development. Heterozygotes with DrMio are semi-lethal, 10-30% adults survive to eclosion, surviving adults exhibit reduced eye, deranged bristle pattern on the thorax, abdomen, legs and wing margins and locomotor defects so the flies could hardly move. A similar phenotype is seen when heterozygous with DrMio revertant alleles and stg alleles. Heterozygotes with Wedge1 only exhibit the reduced eye phenotype. Interact in trans with lesions in stg causing loss and derangement of bristles and loss of neuromuscular coordination.
Number of facets varies from 1 to 10. The region of the surface of the eye, which has a red colour, resembles a drop.
