Detailed Description

e4 gl2 and e4 wo1 ro1 mutant larvae show an abnormal response to UVC radiation.

A large fraction of homozygotes are arrhythmic with respect to locomotor activity when kept in constant darkness at 24oC, and the average signal-to-noise ratio is lower than wild-type. The rhythmicity is not affected by temperature.

Spiracle sheaths dark.

RK1. Body colour: very dark, like e1 but abdomen lighter. period by dark spiracle sheaths.

Discoverer

Sturtevant, 27 Sep. 1917.

According to Craymer in FBrf0063385, e1 was isolated on In(3R)C and was never successfully separated from it. Most ebony alleles denoted simply as "e" without a specific allele designation can be traced back to Muller's e4. Most ebony mutations in Stock Center stocks designated as e1 are probably e4.

Comments
Comments

Most viable and generally best of the dark alleles, such as e1 and e11. Classifiable from hatching throughout larval

Stocks labeled as carrying 'e', but not In(3R)C, usually have e4.
