First instar larvae do not grow. Mosaic analysis demonstrates mutant phenotype is non-autonomous, clones survive as sectors of mutant tissue only in the abdomen. Individuals survive when Dp(1;4)wm65g or Dp(1;3)wm49a is present (at 25oC but not 18oC). Surviving males are phenotypically normal and fertile.

L1 larval lethal; no growth. survive as XY but not as X0 males in presence of either Dp(1;4)wm65g or Dp(1;3)wm49a. Survive as gynandromorphs when only tergites and occasionally wing tissue mutant; mutant tissue etched, lacks bristles and deformed in the case of wing tissue (Shannon, Kaufman, Shen and Judd, 1972). viable in epidermal clones.
