Ectopic expression of cths.PB during oogenesis produces egg chambers containing 30 polyploid nurse cell nuclei and two diploid oocyte nuclei in over 75% of cases. The two oocytes are located at opposite poles of the egg chamber. These egg chambers are probably 'compound egg chambers' containing two adjacent germline cysts.
Heat stimulation of wandering larvae for 90mins and of middle third instar for more than 90mins at 37oC results in larval or pupal lethality. Ectopic ct expression in the eye disc causes maldifferentiation of photoreceptor precursors and excessive cell death. Compound eyes of transformants heat shocked at middle third instar exhibit irregular arrays of ommatidia along the dorsoventral axis. Interommatidial bristles are lost or arrangement disturbed.
ch organs are transformed to as es identity, scolopales are absent.
