eye-antennal disc & peripodial epithelium
Dorso-posteriorly enlarged compound eyes, ommatidia array and ommatidial structure are basically normal. During middle to late third larval instar stages the eye imaginal disc epithelium overgrows to form a bud that might later become the overgrowth. Phenotype results from overproliferation of undifferentiated cells.
Excess of differentiated tissue leading to the appearance of one eye superimposed on another. Heterozygous females have large, but otherwise wild type, eyes.
