Eye pigment is unaffected by raising flies at 29oC or 18oC or by alleles of Su(var)325, Su(var)327, Su(var)330 or E(var)303. However an extra Y chromosome enhances pigmentation in the anterior but not the posterior of the eye, while the absence of a Y chromosome suppresses pigmentation. When pigment is suppressed the pigmented area becomes mottled.
