Mutant embryos form a very small number of septae along the basal lateral region of the epithelial cells.

Transheterozygotes with Df(3L)vin8 or Df(3L)BK9 are lethal, rare adults escapers are occasionally obtained. Transheterozygotes with Nrx-IV14, Nrx-IV319, Nrx-IV575 and Nrx-IV711 allow rare adult escapers, adults exhibit rough eyes, notched wings, broadened veins and duplication and malformations of the legs.
