Acidification in the midgut of homozygous larvae is often less than in wild-type larvae.

Homozygous larvae have constrictions along the length of their caecae. Cytoplasmic granules are scattered throughout the cytoplasm in caecal cells, in contrast to wild-type, where they are restricted to the basal part of the cell. Rescued to the adult stage by α-SpecRpS27A.PL.
