Large follicle stem cell clones block the formation of egg chambers. The differentiation of the mutant follicle cells appears unaffected in these clones: they maintain columnar shape, adhere to each other and form an epithelial sheet. However, the cells fail to associate with germline cells to form egg chambers. Small homozygous follicle cell clones are able to surround cysts with Inx2[+] follicle cells to form nascent egg chambers. Homozygous germline clones are able to form egg chambers with follicle cells.

Lethality occurs during the first larval instar.
