Detailed Description

lgs20F homozygous embryos make a shortened cuticle with an excess of ventral denticles at the expense of naked cuticle.

lgs20F mutant embryos that lack maternal and zygotic lgs function display a cuticle denticle lawn that is characteristic of a complete loss of wg signalling.

Discs from mutant larvae are abnormally small. Homozygous mutant somatic clones can be made by rescuing lgs20F with lgsαTub84B.PK and FLPing out lgs to create clones that are lgs20F and Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PK. When this is done, clones typically undergo only a few divisions after they are generated in the presumptive wing blade, then the mutant cells stop proliferating and either die or are actively eliminated from the disc epithelium.

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

The wing notch phenotype seen in Chie5.5/+ mutants is partially suppressed by the presence of lgs20F/+.

lgs20F/+ suppresses the rough eye phenotype seen in flies expressing armS56F.GMR.

Overexpression of armScer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC,T:SV40\nls2, under the regulation of Scer\GAL4da.G32 in lgs20F mutants which lack both maternal and zygotic lgs function converts the lgs20F denticle lawn into an entirely naked cuticle along the ventral midline.

lgs20F, sggM11 homozygous mutant germ-line clones are indistinguishable from lgs20F germ-line clones.

Xenogenetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

The addition of Hsap\BCL9αTub84B.PK to lgs20F animals leads to a partial suppression of the larval lethal phenotype, though 80% of animals die as pharate adults. lgs20F embryos lacking both maternal and zygotic lgs are fully rescued by maternal expression of Hsap\BCL9αTub84B.PK.
