Homozygous gusf07073 and gusf07073/Df(2R)nap1 flies display abnormal wing morphology, including blistering, formation of ectopic vein material, and loss of material at the margin. These phenotypes occur at low penetrance in homozygous gusf07073 flies, but are frequent in gusf07073/Df(2R)nap1 mutants.

Embryos laid by mothers of the genotypes gusf07073 or gusf07073/Df(2R)nap1 hatch only rarely and most viable embryos are produced by young females. Most of these mutant embryos dessicate and collapse soon after egg laying.

When mothers carry guse00456 in trans to gusf07073, this genotype has little effect on embryonic viability of the offspring.

The collapsed egg phenotype of embryos laid by homozygous gusf07073 mutant mothers is nearly fully rescued by maternal overexpression of gusScer\UAS.S.T:Ivir\HA1 using the ubiquitous Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU driver, but not when the germ line-specific Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 driver is used.

Expression of gusScer\UAS.L.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU fails to rescue the collapsed-egg phenotype of homozygous maternal gusf07073 mutants. In fact, embryos of homozygous gusf07073 mothers containing both the gusScer\UAS.L.T:Ivir\HA1 transgene and Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU are never recovered.

Embryos produced by gusf07073 mutant females display a significant reduction in the number of primordial germ cells in comparison with wild-type.

No egg chambers with greater than 16 germ cells are observed in homozygous gusf07073 ovarioles.

Maternal expression of FsnScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU can partially suppress the gusf07073 collapsed egg phenotype.

No tumorous follicles are seen in 1-2 day old flies with one copy of Cul-5EY21463 and one copy of gusf07073.

No tumorous follicles are seen in 1-2 day old flies with one copy of Cul-5EY21463 in a gusf07073 mutant background.

gusf07073/+ enhances the tumorous follicle phenotype seen in Cul-5EY21463 homozygotes. 82% of 1-2 day old flies contain egg chambers with greater than 16 germ cells compared to 34% in the Cul-5EY21463 homozygotes.

gusf07073/gusf07073 enhances the tumorous follicle phenotype seen in Cul-5EY21463 mutants. 83% of 1-2 day old flies contain egg chambers with greater than 16 germ cells compared to 34% in the Cul-5EY21463 homozygotes. 17% of double mutant ovarioles also contain disorganised egg chambers with intermingled germ cells and somatic cells, a phenotype that is only seen in 10 day old Cul-5EY21463 homozygotes.

A greater proportion of empty germaria is seen in Cul-5EY21463 gusf07073 double mutants compared to Cul-5EY21463 single mutants.
