The lethality of the Df(3R)D2 deletion chromosome (which affects both Pof and CG33228 transcription units) is caused by an effect on CG33228 (represented by the CG33228D2 allele) and not by an effect on Pof; transheterozygotes of CG33228D2 with either CG33228CB-6312-3 or CG33228SH0542 (two alleles caused by insertions within the CG33228 open reading frame) are lethal, whereas newly generated excision alleles that only affect the Pof transcription unit and not the CG33228 transcription unit are viable.

FlyBase curator comment: the lethality of the Df(3R)D2 deletion chromosome has been shown (see FBrf0202200) to be due to an effect on CG33228 (represented by the CG33228D2 allele) and not due to an effect on Pof as originally reported in FBrf0179298.
