Newly eclosed, dark reared mutant adults show a small reduction in light sensitivity in the eye compared to wild-type controls (assayed using electroretinogram recordings).
20 days old mutants raised under 12 hour light/12 hour dark conditions show a striking decrease in light sensitivity (assayed using electroretinogram recordings) compared to wild type. 18 day old mutants raised under these conditions show degeneration in the rhabdomeres, while the rhabdomeres are normal in 16 day old mutants.
