Expression of Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU results in the accumulation of acidic vesicles in most of the eye imaginal disc cells posterior to the morphogenetic furrow. There is also ectopic cell death in this area of the eye imaginal disc.

Expression of Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB using a 1 hour heat shock results in a weak induction of autophagy; a few, small autophagosomes are seen, mostly confined to the perinuclear region.

Expression of Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PP in fat body cell clones has no appreciable effect on cell size.

Expression of Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF has no discernible effect on eye development.

Expression of Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4Cg.PA does not affect larval growth or developmental timing.

Co-expression of Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Atg13Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C results in reduced viability and fertility, as well as eye degeneration. Raising the flies at 18[o]C restores fertility, whilst maintaining the eye degeneration. Retinal cells such as photoreceptors and cone cells exhibit degeneration and there is complete disarray of the ommatidia structure and accumulation of membrane-dense vacuoles. After 4 weeks the retinal structure has completely degenerated except for the corneal lens exocuticle. Prominent cell death is seen in the differentiation ommatidia in eye disc and autophagic flux is increased.

Expression of GyfHM05106 dramatically suppresses the eye degeneration and eye disc cell death seen when Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Atg13Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP are co-expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C. However, the photoreceptor morphology is not fully restored. The increased autophagic flux in eye discs is also suppressed.

Expression of Atg1JF02273 completely suppresses the eye degeneration seen when Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Atg13Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP are co-expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C.

Expression of 4EHPGL01035 does not suppress the eye degeneration seen when Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Atg13Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP are co-expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C.

Expression of picoGD7437 does not suppress the eye degeneration seen when Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC and Atg13Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP are co-expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C.

Co-expression of Atg17HMS01611 almost completely suppresses the accumulation of acidic vesicles and increased cell death seen posterior to the morphogenetic furrow in the eye discs of larvae expressing Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU.

Co-expression of Atg13Scer\UAS.cCa results in a marked increase in the number, size, and distribution of autophagosomes in animals expressing Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of low levels of Scer\GAL4hs.PB (using a 1 hour heat shock).

Autophagy is no longer induced by expression of Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4Cg.PA in clones of cells that are also homozygous for Atg13Δ74.

Co-expression of Atg13Scer\UAS.cCa and Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PP in fat body cell clones results in cells that are markedly reduced in size compared to neighbouring control cells.

Co-expression of Atg13Scer\UAS.cCa and Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF leads to disruption of ommatidial patterning.

Expression of Atg1Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB can partially rescue the lethality, but not the autophagy defect, of Atg13unspecified homozygotes.
