Detailed Description
Statement

salmScer\UAS.cdCa; Scer\GAL4nub-AC-62 flies have severely reduced wings that lack L2 and L5.

When salmScer\UAS.cBa is driven by Scer\GAL4nub-AC-62, wing veins L2 and L5 do not form and the size of the wing is reduced.

Somatic clones of salmScer\UAS.cdCa; Scer\GAL4Act5C.PP cells in the late third instar wing disc are recovered much less frequently outside the endogenous salm expression domain than in it. This distribution is not seen with wild-type control clones.

Overexpression of salmScer\UAS.cdCa using Scer\GAL4Kr.PM or Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 reduces the number of neurons in the lch5 organ from five to three. With the Scer\GAL4Kr.PM driver this phenotype is seen only in segments A1-A3. Occasional loss of ventral and lateral neurons in the peripheral nervous system are also seen in embryos expressing salmScer\UAS.cdCa under the control of Scer\GAL4Kr.PM. In addition to the lch5 neuron phenotype, other lateral and ventral clusters of neurons are also affected in embryos expressing salmScer\UAS.cdCa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4. Sporadic mislocalisation of lch5 is seen. v'ch1 is sometimes eliminated and dbp axons fail to extend anterior-posterior axonal projections. Overexpression of salmScer\UAS.cdCa using Scer\GAL4Mz1407 or Scer\GAL4ase.PS does not produce a detectable defect in the peripheral nervous system.

Expression of salmScer\UAS.cdCa under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS confers some dorsal trunk features to the tracheal tree.

Expression of salmScer\UAS.cdCa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 results in malformation and shortening of the legs.

Low levels of ectopic salmScer\UAS.cdCa expression in thoracic cells driven by Scer\GAL4C-765 cause a weak expansion of the anterior postalar proneural cluster. Several extra macrochaetae are differentiated in ectopic positions. When expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-C253 the macrochaetae are effected dramatically. Only anterior postalar bristles form normally; the others disappear or differentiate as extremely small bristles. In the wing disc, all proneural clusters, where salmScer\UAS.cdCa is overexpressed, appear in their normal positions, and later the sensory organ precursors are singled out normally but either do not divide or divide later than normal.

Flies expressing salmScer\UAS.cdCa under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 frequently lack macrochaetae from the thorax and the femurs of the metathoracic legs are often twisted.

The loss of laterally located somatic clones of salmScer\UAS.cdCa; Scer\GAL4Act5C.PP cells in late third instar wing discs is suppressed by all of the following transgenes: BacA\p35Scer\UAS.cHa, trnScer\UAS.cMa, or capsScer\UAS.cSa, capsID.Scer\UAS, and trnΔC.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC.

Expression of salmScer\UAS.cdCa under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS partially rescues the lack of dorsal trunk (DT) seen in the tracheal system of arm2 embryos. DT cells are able to migrate anteriorly and posteriorly in these rescued embryos, but the branches do not fuse.
