The nephrocytes of pydex147 homozygous stage 16 embryos are abnormally agglutinated, with electron-dense regions at membranes contact sites, thickening of the basement membrane, and complete absence of slit diaphragms; as in the wild-type controls, the only junctions between adjacent nephrocytes are found at the most external region contacting the basement membrane; however, the septate junction markers Dlg, Fas3 and Lgl localize at ectopic junctional complexes.

Nearly all pydex147 adults exhibit extra dorsal thoracic macrochaeta.

Embryos maternally and zygotically mutant for pydex180 exhibit 86% embryonic lethality.

Substantial embryonic lethality (43-58%) is found in flies from pydex147 mothers crossed with pydB12 fathers.

The ventral epidermis is intact in pydex147 maternal/zygotic mutant embryos and the CNS is not obviously hypertrophied. While approximately 26% of pydex147 maternal/zygotic mutant embryos appear wild-type, most mutant embryos (45%) exhibit defects in head involution that result in defective head skeletons, whereas the most severe (29%) display complete failure of head involution, leading to a hole in the cuticle. In addition, some show minor defects in dorsal closure.

The ventral epidermis is intact in pydB12/pydex147 maternal/zygotic mutant embryos and the CNS is not obviously hypertrophied. While approximately 17% of pydB12/pydex147 maternal/zygotic mutant embryos appear wild-type, most mutant embryos (64%) exhibit defects in head involution that result in defective head skeletons, whereas the most severe (19%) display complete failure of head involution, leading to a hole in the cuticle. In addition, some show minor defects in dorsal closure.

Over 90% of pydex147/Df(3R)p-XT103 flies display more than four dorsocentral macrochaetae.

Wings from pydex147/Df(3R)p-XT103 flies are broader compared to control wings. A 10% increase in the number of cells found between the L3 and L4 veins is observed. In third instar larval wing discs, mutant cells appear smaller, and there are 15% more cells per surface unit compared to controls.

Wings from pydex147/pydtam flies are broader compared to control wings.

Both pydex147/+ and pydex147/Df(3R)p-XT103 mutants display an increase in the number of ovarian niche cap cells.

An increase in the number of stem cells per ovariole is observed in pydex147/Df(3R)p-XT103 flies.
