In larvae, expression only begins in the late (wandering, non-feeding) third instar stage, despite how anti-Ilp2 staining is visible in insulin secreting cells of early third instar larvae. In larvae and adults, expression often colocalizes with serotonin-immunoreactive neuron processes.
