Expressing biUAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH results in small eyes in in a great proportion of adults. Expression under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PT causes a severe loss of synaptic transmission, together with phototransduction defects and abnormal prolonged depolarizing afterpotential (PDA) in eye photoreceptor cells.

The expression of biScer\UAS.cBa driven by Scer\GAL430A or Scer\GAL4dpp.PU, or driven in clones by Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI, induces long distance cell migration and scattering in third instar larval wing discs, as compared to controls; clonal expression under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI also leads to some cells becoming embedded in the extracellular matrix and to some cells elongating along the anterior-posterior axis and exhibiting long actin-rich protrusions; expression under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.PU also leads to some cells embedding in the extracellular matrix without becoming basally delaminated, but does not lead to any obvious defects regarding cell diameter, cell shape or cell polarity, whereas timed expression (using Gal80[ts]) for 36h prior dissection results in overgrowths in the presumptive notum region of the wing disc, as compared to controls. The expression of biScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4C-765 results in a proportion of third instar larval wing disc cells becoming embedded in the extracellular matrix and basally delaminating, as cells extrude from the epithelium and accumulate on the other side of the basal membrane, but does not lead to significant cell death, as compared to controls.

When biScer\UAS.cPa is driven by Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1, a loss of the arista is seen. Mutant legs exhibit a truncation of tarsal segments. A severe reduction in eye size or the complete loss of retinal tissue is seen. When biScer\UAS.cPa is driven by Scer\GAL4GMR.PF highly degenerated eyes are obtained.

biScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 flies have small wings in which some or all of the veins are shifted, truncated or completely missing. Wing veins L2 and L5 are particularly stringly affected. biScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4vg.int2.1 flies have distally truncated L5 wing veins and occasionally have ectopic veins posterior to L5.

When biScer\UAS.cBa is overexpressed under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1, the dorsal bristles of the clasper and the hypandrium bristles are duplicated.

Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1-mediated expression dorsalises ventral leg cells (loss of ventral leg structures, fusion of proximal foreleg segments and ventral leg bifurcations) but is not sufficient to induce transdetermination. Legs lack ventral leg structures and have a mirror-image dorsal-dorsal symmetry.

Flies in which biScer\UAS.cBa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB using a single 2-hour heat shock between 12 and 30 hours after puparium formation die prior to tergite pigmentation. The anterior tergite and intersegmental membrane of these pharate adults are completely replaced by a mirror-image duplication of posterior tergite and posterior hairy zone. No ectopic macrochaetae are seen.

When expressed from Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1, wing outgrowths of variable expressivity are observed in 80% of flies. Ectopic wings are located postero-dorsally and mirror-symmetrically to the normal wing, as indicated by the opposing alulae.

The long distance cell migration and scattering, resulting from the expression in third instar larval wing discs of biScer\UAS.cBa either under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.PU, or in clones under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI, is not suppressed by the co-expression of bskK53R.Scer\UAS; the basal delamination of cells, resulting from the expression of biScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4C-765 in third instar larval wing discs, is not suppressed by the co-expression of bskK53R.Scer\UAS, Diap1Scer\UAS.cUa or TimpScer\UAS.cPa.

The co-expression of both biScer\UAS.cBa and shgScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.PU does not significantly suppress the long distance cell migration and scattering observed in third instar larval wing discs upon the expression of only biScer\UAS.cBa or only shgScer\UAS.cSa, under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.PU.

wgAct5C.PS; Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1/biScer\UAS.cBa pupae die before differentiating adult cuticle, transplanted leg discs exhibit an extensive area of wing tissue.
