Wild-type adult flies fed a high-fat diet, HFD, (post-eclosion) have increased levels of fat, glucose, and insulin-like peptides. Within the heart, myofibrillar disorganization within the cardiomyocytes, cardiac lipid accumulation, reduced cardiac contractility, conduction blocks, and severe structural pathologies are observed. Ameliorating effects, based on inhibition or increase of components of affected cellular pathways, have been investigated. Exercise has been found to restore HFD-induced cardiac dysfunction.
