The following information accompanied stocks donated to the Bloomington Stock Center by Peter Smibert, U. Melbourne. Peter's description of the screen: "We screened for new lethal mutations in the region uncovered by Df(3L)ED220 (3L: 16,080,584 - 16,404,777). We performed 7 rounds of EMS mutagenesis (standard protocol - 8 hours starvation followed by 25mM EMS in sucrose, overnight feeding). For rounds 1 and 2, our starting strain was an isogenised w1118 stock. For rounds 3 onwards, we used w ; FRT80B. Mutagenised males were crossed to virgin females carrying TM6B. F1 male progeny carrying TM6B were individually crossed to w ; Df(3L)ED220 / TM6B and these crosses were scored for viability of non-Tb animals. Df(3L)ED220 is marked with w+, so stocks were recovered from vials with no viable non-Tb progeny by selecting white- males and virgin females. All stocks are balanced with TM6B, Hu, Tb. Alleles are named as follows (for example) 5B4, where 5 means round 5 of mutagenesis, B is bottle B and 4 means the 4th putative lethal detected in the initial screening. Alleles with either the first number or letter different are considered to be independent."
