HcRed1 is a dimeric far-red fluorescent protein with an excitation peak of 590nm and an emission peak of 640nm in vitro. It is an artificial derivative of the Heteractis crispa 'hcCP' gene (UniProtKB:Q95W85), a non-fluorescent GFP homolog. HcRed1 contains the mutations A5S, T39A, L126H, C148S, R176H, L181H and P208L relative to the wild-type hcCP gene (numbering relative to the wild-type Aequorea victoria GFP gene) (PMID:11682051).
