The P{3'.RS5+3.3'} transgene consists of the functional w+mW.FRT.hs marker (which contains an FRT site in the first intron), bounded on each side by a 3' P-element terminus. This transgene is one of two reciprocal elements that are generated in vivo by FLP-mediated recombination between a P{RS5r} element and a P{RS3r} element, the other is the P{5'.1xFRT.RS.5'} transgene. The functional w+mW.FRT.hs marker in P{3'.RS5+3.3'} is reconstituted during the recombination event from the non-functional reciprocal portions of w that are present in P{RS5r} and P{RS3r}.
