Mutations in the transcription unit: breakpoints map to the extremes of the transcription unit (FBrf0042053).
Heterozygous females show a significant increase in the level of monoene cuticular hydrocarbons and a significant decrease in the level of 7,11-diene cuticular hydrocarbons compared to wild-type females.
First instar larvae exhibit lateral dots (a paired structure found in A1 segment of wild type) in abdominal segment A2 and rarely in A3.
Homozygous embryos transform parasegment 7--13 into parasegment 6.
Segment-dependent graded phenotype related to level of abd-A protein expression (FBrf0039775). A reduction in abd-A product but more than in abd-AMX2. Dimunition of product is not uniform, shows a gradient across segments.
Hemizygous epidermal cell clones show partial adult transformation. The moderate phenotype indicates the presence of some abd-A product.
The frequency of variegated bithorax transformations seen in Df(3R)red-P52 heterozygotes is not increased in flies also containing a copy of abd-AP10.
N. Shaw, 1974.
Presents a gradient towards the posterior of abd-A expression in epidermis and ventral nerve cord.
