Homozygous adp60 mutants have decreased mobility compared with heterozygotes.

Homo- and heterozygous adp60 mutant flies deprived of food survive longer than wild-type controls under the same conditions. Survival is adp60 > adp60/+ > +/+. Triglyceride content of the flies follows the same trend.

After 1 week of ad libitum feeding, the fat body cells of adp60 flies contain greatly enlarged lipid droplets compared to controls. In addition, the mutant animals show a twofold higher accumulation of triglycerides, and a variable, slight reduction of glycogen levels to 70-80% of normal levels.

adp60 adults show increased resistance to starvation compared to control flies.

Homozygous females are heavier than control females. Heterozygous females are not significantly different in weight from control females.

Adults are obese.

Corpus allatum hypertrophies in mated females. Females are fertile but egg hatchability is reduced. Adult emergence is low.

Adult fat body hypertrophies as cells become distorted by enormous oil globules. Lipid accumulated at expense of glycogen in fat body; yolk deposition retarded (FBrf0065652; FBrf0034729). Lipid content and fatty acid profiles compared for various developmental stages in adp60 and wild type (FBrf0044927). Abnormal fat bodies visible through body wall of 6-day-old and older adults when submerged in 95% alcohol and then water. Corpus allatum of mated females hypertrophies. Females fertile but egg hatchability reduced to 45-90%, depending on residual genome; dorsal appendages of chorion convoluted or fused (FBrf0015801); adult emergence lowered to 33-85%.
