macrochaeta & adult abdomen | ventral
sm3/sm1 flies of both sexes lack almost all bristles on the ventral surface of the abdomen. All acrostichial hairs and microchaetae around the eyes are missing. Aristae are reduced and dorsal macrochaetae, including scutellars, are worn, thinned and sometimes missing. Sternopleural macrochaetae and microchaetae appear normal. Viability is poor and both sexes are sterile.
Abdomen partially denuded of bristles and shrunken. Wings usually warped and semierect. Acrostichal hairs disarranged. Tendency for erect postscutellars. Male genitalia often disturbed. Anal protuberance of female bent down. Viability 30% wild type. Both sexes entirely sterile. RK2.
