Description

Sequencing of the cDNA for tn in tn1 animals did not reveal any amino acid changes, suggesting that this mutation might affect regulatory regions.

tn1/Df(2R)Exel6068 pupae are thin and long. Compared to wild type, mutant L3 larval skeletal muscles are narrower, round in cross-section and relatively loose at attachment sites. At higher magnification, mutant muscles show gaps between the myofibrils and the fibres appear unbundled, and there is irregular clustering of nuclei within mutant muscle cells.

tn1/tnΔA pupae are thin and long.

tn1/tnΔB pupae are thin and long.

A large proportion of tn1/Df(2R)Exel6068, tn1/tnΔA or tn1/tnΔB animals die during embryogenesis; either no or very low numbers are lost during larval stages; animals that survive the larval stages die as pupae.

Fully penetrant recessive lethal (no homozygous adults recovered). Hatching occurs late and second/third instar moult is delayed. Third instar larvae are long, thin, and rather slow-moving; histological examination shows abnormal muscle structure. Puparium also long and thin. Pupal development of homozygotes incomplete. Since mutants are unable to perform movements necessary for pupation, they die prior to eclosion.
