    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

When eyaunspecified mutant clones are generated in the anterior follicle cells, ectopic polar cells form and are capped with basement membrane components. Ectopic polar cells made in the posterior region do not show an apical cap.

Flies containing homozygous clones show loss of eye and a corresponding increase in head capsule.

The initial behaviour of germ cells is normal in mutant embryos; they contact the mesoderm and gather into bilateral groups as in wild-type embryos. However, defects in germ cell migration are seen in early germ band retraction, and germ cells are scattered throughout the posterior regions of late embryos. The final muscle pattern of the embryo is disorganised in the lateral regions, with the normal cluster of 4 lateral longitudinal muscles being absent or reduced. Dorsal and ventral oblique muscle fibres are normal.

Eye discs lack photoreceptor cells. Mitotically active lamina precursor cells are absent in third instar larvae.

Embryos show defects in head involution, and do not show segmental movements. Abdominal transformations are seen in double mutant combinations with Pc like mutants.

    Reference

When clones of ciZn:C.Scer\UAS are made in the developing eye in a eyaunspecified background, glial cells never enter the eye disc. When stgScer\UAS.cNa is driven by Scer\GAL4bi-omb-Gal4, in a eyaunspecified background, glial cells in the optic stalk undergo excessive proliferation. However these glial cells never enter the eye disc.
