Detailed Description

All adult ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC/+ flies are devoid of photoreceptors. Cell death is elevated in late third instar eye discs for strong ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC lines. 88% of ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC/+ ommatidia lack 1-3 cone cells, while only 4% contain 1-2 supernumerary cone cells.

Photoreceptor cell determination is blocked.

Flies carrying ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC have a rough eye phenotype.

Flies carrying ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC have rough eyes that are devoid of photoreceptors. Third larval instar eye imaginal discs carrying ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC show increased cell death compared to wild-type.

Ectopic expression of both svGMR.PS and ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC generates supernumerary cone cells in about 90% of the ommatidia of pupal eye discs, with a maximum of 11 cone cells observed in one ommatidium.

More than half of the ommatidia in svGMR.PS ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC eyes have two or three supernumerary cone cells: 30% have three, 24% have two, and 14% have one supernumerary cone cell.

The addition of svGMR.PS results in less photoreceptor cell death in ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC third instar eye discs.

Flies carrying both phylGMR.PC and ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC have nearly wild-type eyes, with most of the ommatidia having close to the normal number of photoreceptor cells. sina2/sina3 flies carrying both phylGMR.PC and ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC have very disrupted eyes, similar to those of flies carrying ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC alone.
