Detailed Description

When embryos are heat shocked to induce Scer\GAL4hs.PB during embryogenesis widespread cell death occurs. When expression is driven by Scer\GAL4h-1J3, cell death occurs in stripes in the embryos, which subsequently die at the end of embryogenesis with head defects and fusion/deletion of alternate denticle belts.

When Eip93FScer\UAS.cLa is driven by Scer\GAL4vg.PM, all animals die at the start of pupal development. Large amounts of ectopic cell death is seen in the wing and hinge regions of the wing disc. Wing disc morphogenesis is defective, such that the wing does not elongate and appears to fold back on itself. Animals die soon after head eversion during metamorphosis and exhibit defects in the presumptive adult notum and wing.

Statement

Cell death phenotype is not suppressed by removal of rpr, W and grim (i.e. Df(3L)H99), though the remaining cell death does not show the nuclear hallmarks or programmed cell death.
