Detailed Description

Each denticle row is present, but the denticles themselves have a flattened base and thin extensions, pointing perpendicularly to the apical surface.

tynPG38 embryos show very basal defects in membrane/cuticle interactions.

tynPG38 embryos show an enlargement of the apical surface of denticle cells - smooth cells are not affected.

m1, tynPG38 double mutants have denticles with thin extremities (as found in tynPG38 single mutants) and lacking the medial constriction (as found in m1 single mutants). The addition of Df(3L)zyeex72, which deletes zye, has a further effect, leading to denticles with a twisted appearence.

Expression of neoScer\UAS.cFa or nyoScer\UAS.cFa using Scer\GAL4da.G32 partially restores the viability of tynPG38 animals, and very partially ameliorates the tynPG38 denticle phenotype.

Expression of m::tynZPtyn.Scer\UAS or m::tynZPm.Scer\UAS with Scer\GAL4da.G32 has a weak effect on the tynPG38 denticle phenotype but does not restore adult viability.

Comments

Expression of SP71Scer\UAS.cFa using Scer\GAL4da.G32 rescues the denticle and adult viability phenotypes of SP71PG38 animals.

Expression of tynScer\UAS.cFa using Scer\GAL4da.G32 fully rescues the denticle defects of tynPG38 embryos and restores adult viability.

Expression of tynΔPAN.Scer\UAS using Scer\GAL4da.G32 leads to only a slight modification of the tynPG38 denticle phenotype and no restoration of tynPG38 adult viability.

Comments

Re-mobilisation of the transposon causes the lethality phenotype to be lost.

Excision of the P-element restores a wild type phenotype.
