A 1.8kb EcoRI-XbaI cDNA fragment of Mdoa\dsx is expressed under the control of UASt regulatory sequences. The Mdoa\dsx fragment encodes the male-specific isoform and is comprised of exons 2-3-m-5-6.

      Expression of Mdoa\dsxM1.Scer\UAS, induced by Scer\GAL4hs.PB during female fly development, does not affect the anal and genital regions of the female fly, nor does this treatment result in the formation of male-specific bristles or the sex comb on the forelegs. There is some male-like pigmentation in the 5th and 6th tergite in these flies.
