Site of nucleotide substitution in mutant inferred by FlyBase based on reported amino acid change. position of mutation on reference sequence inferred by FlyBase curator based on author statement.
Egg chambers containing follicle cells mutant for MbsT666 display oocyte polarity defects.
MbsT666 mutant clones in the eye disc show a mislocalization of photoreceptors from the apical epithelium into the basal region, sometimes progressing into the optic stalk. The mislocalized photoreceptors retain their polarity and some epithelial characteristics. There is only a slight reduction in apical constriction in the morphogenetic furrow in MbsT666 clones and no ectopic apical constriction in more posterior regions of the disc. MbsT666 mutant clones in adult wings have short wing hairs that are sometimes forked. Unlike the situation in eye discs, wing disc cells are not mislocalized basally in MbsT666 clones.

Expression of either constitutively inactive MoeT559A.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC transgene, or the phosphomimetic MoeT559D.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC transgene, both under the control of Scer\GAL4tub, does not affect the MbsT666 mutant photoreceptor localization phenotype.
MbsT541/MbsT666 is partially rescued by Scer\GAL4da.G32/MbsUAS.cLa
MbsT666 is partially rescued by Scer\GAL4Tub.PU/MbsUAS.cLa
Expression of MbsScer\UAS.cLa, driven by Scer\GAL4da.G32, partially rescues the embryonic lethality of MbsT541/MbsT666 transheterozygotes, allowing 80% of these mutants to survive to the pupal stage, but only 6% to survive to adulthood. MbsT666 mutant eye disc clones that express MbsScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4tub (generated using the MARCM technique) show normal apical localization within the eye disc, thus rescuing the eye development phenotype of the MbsT666 clones.
Selected as: a mutation affecting early eye development.
