Description

Sfmbt 5' flanking and coding sequence (nucleotides 52991--53045, coordinates according to AE003639) has been replaced by a w+mW.hs marker and there is also an inversion and partial duplication of Sfmbt 3' coding sequences.

Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Sfmbt1 homozygotes and Sfmbt1/Df(2L)BSC30 transheterozygote usually die as wandering third instar larvae. However, a small fraction of these larvae develop into highly abnormal prepupae that fail to develop further. At 120 hours AEL, both Sfmbt1 and Sfmbt1/Df(2L)BSC30 larvae have very small imaginal discs, although their body length is not different to wild-type larvae. Many of these animals continue to grow as wandering larvae, and their discs eventually develop into amorphous tumor-like tissue.

Ovaries from females with Sfmbt1 mutant germ cells show an arrest during oogenesis.

Sfmbt1 ScmD1/ScmSuz302 double mutant clones in the wing disc have a tumour-like phenotype that is characterized by unrestricted cell proliferation (this phenotype is not seen in single mutant clones).

Comments

Expression of SfmbtαTub84.T:Zzzz\TAP fails to rescue Sfmbt1 homozygotes or Sfmbt1/Df(2L)BSC30 transheterozygotes into viable adult flies.
