The expression of yKK104196 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR42D04 severely reduces male mating success, as males perform all precopulatory courtship behaviors normally but fail to copulate even after hours of attempts, and strongly reduced black melanin in the sex combs but not the abdomen. likewise, expression under the combined control of Scer\GAL4GMR42D04 and Scer\GAL80nSyb.PS reduces both male mating success, with males failing repeatedly to grasp the female abdomen with their sex combs when attempting to mount and copulate, and sex comb melanization.

The expression of yKK104196 under the control of Scer\GAL4dsx-GAL4, Scer\GAL4dsx.KI, also severely reduces male mating success, as compared to controls. This phenotype is not observed when expression is under single control of either Scer\GAL4fru.P1.D, Scer\GAL4GMR57C10, Scer\GAL4GMR27E08, Scer\GAL4repo, Scer\GAL4GMR40A05, Scer\GAL4GMR41D01, Scer\GAL4GMR42D02, Scer\GAL4GMR41F06, Scer\GAL4GMR41A01, Scer\GAL4GMR39E06, Scer\GAL4GMR42C06, Scer\GAL4GMR40F04, Scer\GAL4MJ49, Scer\GAL4GMR33G09, Scer\GAL44G, Scer\GAL4GMR29A02, Scer\GAL4c315a, Scer\GAL4l(3)31-1-31-1, Scer\GAL4ple.PF, Scer\GAL4Ddc.PL or Scer\GAL4Hn.PU, or under the combined control of dsxGAL4-DBD plus Scer\GAL4AD.elav or dsxGAL4-DBD plus Hsim\VP16AD-VGlut-OK371. Using the Scer\GAL4GMR40F03 driver does not yield reproducible effects.

The expression of yKK104196 under the control of Scer\GAL4dsx.KI partially reduces black melanin levels in the male A5 and A6 abdominal tergites.

The expression of yKK104196 under the control of Scer\GAL4y.PG results in a 'yellow' body color but does not affect male mating success.
