Expression of sgllKK107976 under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI in adults given a sugar-only diet results in death within 4 d; under these conditions, they perform seizure-like behavioral phenotypes (wing buzzing and wings up posture) and have altered patterns of locomotion, compared to controls; recordings from the dorsal longitudinal muscle in these flies on a sugar-only, but not control, diet show increased firing, compared to controls, with high frequency burst discharges.

Expression of sgllKK107976 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav-C155, in combination with a Dicer-2 transgene to enhance RNAi efficiency, in adults given a sugar-only diet, significantly reduces survival in the first 9 d after eclosion, compared to controls, and causes seizures.

All Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI, sgllKK107976 flies die within 3 days when raised on a 4% sucrose-only diet, whereas no control flies die in this period. Raising these animals on food supplemented with relatively low concentrations dietary vitamin B6 (either pyridoxine or its active form, pyridoxal 5'-phosphate) supplement doesn't improve survival after 3 days, but survival of flies within a 24 period is significantly rescued by pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (but not pyridoxine).
