Expression of ScerGAL4SIFa.PT is found in a subset of four ScerGAL4Kurs58 positive pars intercerebralis (PI) neurons. GFP reconstitution across synaptic partners (GRASP) shows a connection between ScerGAL4SIFa.PT positive PI neurons and ScerGAL4Clk.4.1M positive DN1p neurons.

ScerGAL4IFa.PT drives expression in 4 cells in the pars intercerebralis that extend processes throughout most of the brain neuropils, including most glmeruli of the antennal lobe. The cells labelled in the pars intercerebralis by ScerGAL4IFa.PT also express SIFa.

Detailed Description
Statement

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 29[o]C) of Scer\GAL4SIFa.PT cells in sated flies significantly increases preference for appetitive odors and proboscis extension reflex (PER) in response to sucrose, compared to controls; activation has no affect on PER of starved flies or avoidance of aversive odors in sated flies, compared to controls; activation significantly increases short-term and long-term food intake of sated flies, compared to controls, with no effect on locomotor activity; activation of a subset (restricted using Scer\GAL80tsh-GAL80) of Scer\GAL4SIFa.PT cells also significantly increases short-term food intake, compared to controls.

Inhibition (using Ork1Δ-C.UAS.EGFP) of Scer\GAL4SIFa.PT cells, in combination with a Gal80[ts] transgene to restrict expression to during the feeding experiment, does not affect food intake of starved flies, compared to controls.
