Mutants show female sterility, decreased egg laying and abnormal egg appendages.

Approximately 92% of ovarioles contain more than one pro-oocyte nucleus in stage one mutant egg chambers. Mutant egg chambers show loss of the oocyte (by marker expression analysis) after stage 2 of oogenesis in at least 48% of 2-day old females, and the penetrance of this phenotype increases with age.

Germline stem cells with round fusomes and differentiating cysts with branched fusomes are detected even 15 days after eclosion, indicating that maintenance or differentiation of germline stem cells is not defective in the mutant females.
