UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of a 500bp inverted repeat.
Pupae expressing obst-ENIG.11142R under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU are longer and thinner than wild-type and have significantly higher axis ratio (AR, length/width).
Mosaic animals expressing obst-ENIG.11142R (driven by Scer\GAL4Scer\FRT.Act5C) either in the anterior or posterior portion of the larval body (by locally heating larvae carrying a heat-shock inducible flippase to generate clones) display local disruption of the cuticular ridge structure, which though strongly correlated to the area of obst-ENIG.11142R expression is not strictly cell-autonomous. When allowed to undergo metamorphosis, the mosaic animals display localized pupal shape distortion - thinner and longer in areas largely consisting of obst-ENIG.11142R-expressing cells and of normal appearance in areas consisting of wild-type cells or containing only scattered knock-down cells.
