Homozygotes and endos215-4/Df(3L)fz-GF3b animals die as late third instar larvae or pupae. Larval brains are normal in size. The mitotic index of mutant larval neuroblasts is increased compared to wild type. The proportion of cells in early mitotic stages (prophase and prometaphase) is increased and the proportion of cells in late mitotic stages (metaphase, anaphase and telophase) is decreased in the mutant cells compared to wild type. Chromosomes are undercondensed in the mutant neuroblast cells.

endos00003/endos215-4 oocytes show prolonged prophase I, failure to initiate or maintain metaphase I and highly dispersed or undetectable DNA at stage 14.

twsj11C8/+ suppresses the endos215-4 homozygous phenotype, with the animals developing into viable adults whose larval brains have wild-type mitotic parameters and normal chromosome condensation. Adult males are fertile, but females lay eggs that do not develop.

twsj11C8/+ does not rescue the meiotic maturation defect of endos00003/endos215-4 oocytes.
