Expression of ScrHD.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB induces ectopic salivary glands in the embryonic head.
Ectopic expression of ScrHD.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Dll-md23 triggers homeotic transformation of the third antennal segment (A3) and the arista to a fully grown tarsus. The ectopic tarsi generated by Scer\GAL4Dll-md23>ScrHD.Scer\UAS display a patch of red pigmentation, an indication that a group of cells might have been transformed to ectopic eye-cells. The ectopic tarsi display one or two sex comb teeth indicating a prothoracic (T1) character.
Scanning Electron Microscopy and the presence of photoreceptor cell markers of adult antennae expressing Scer\GAL4Dll-md23>ScrScer\UAS.cAa confirm that the pigmented cells observed are indeed ectopic compound eyes, comprising of several ommatidia.
Ectopic expression of ScrScer\UAS.cAa using Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 induces strong eye phenotypes, ranging from reduction to the complete absence of eyes.
