    Comment:

G to A nucleotide change at the second or third position of the Trp codon leads to a nonsense mutation (exact site of mutation unspecified). Site of nucleotide substitution in mutant inferred by FlyBase based on reported amino acid change.

Cog7z-4495/Cog7z-5797 transheterozygotes exhibit pronounced locomotor defects: larvae show irregular crawling with more turns and shorter distances, decreased frequency of peristaltic contractions and decreased distance per contraction, as compared to controls; adults show decreased climbing ability, as compared to controls. These individuals also show a held-out wing phenotype and present heat sensitive paralysis (38[o]C). About half spermatids in testes are multinucleate, indicating cytokinesis failure.

Cog7z-4495/Cog7z-5797 transheterozygous larvae show exhibit neuromuscular junctions with significantly fewer boutons, but similar primary branch number, as compared to controls.

The majority of spermatids are multinucleate, suggesting a failure of meiotic cytokinesis, in homozygous, Cog7z-4495/Cog7z-5797, Cog7z-4495/Cog7z-2805 and Cog7z-4495/Df(3R)BSC861 males.

Cog7z-4495/Cog7z-5797 males show a failure of spermatid elongation.

The F-actin rings fail to constrict to completion and the central spindles appear less dense than wild type in 80% of mid-late telophase I figures in Cog7z-4495/Df(3R)BSC861 spermatocytes.
