Expression of dpnScer\UAS.cVa under the control of both Scer\GAL4insc-Mz1407 and Scer\GAL80ase.PZ results in a massive increase in the number of type II neuroblasts and numerous small non-ase-expressing immature intermediate neural progenitors (INPs) in third larval instar brains. In contrast to wild type, these ectopic neuroblast and INP cells are found in adult brains in the mutant animals.
Type II neuroblast clones in larvae expressing dpnScer\UAS.cVa under the control of Scer\GAL4insc-Mz1407 are much larger and contain more neuroblasts and immature INPs than wild-type clones. The ratio of immature INPs to neuroblasts is increased from 2:1 to 8:1 in the mutant clones.
Type I neuroblast clones in larvae expressing dpnScer\UAS.cVa under the control of either Scer\GAL4ase.neuro or Scer\GAL4insc-Mz1407 contain an increased number of neuroblasts and ganglion mother cells compared to control clones, with some persisting into adult brains.
