Detailed Description

shamsΔ34 homozygotes are viable.

shamsΔ34 homozygous pharate adults display some missing bristles on the dorsal head capsule, but not on the scutellum, and eyes of normal morphology, as compared to controls.

shamsΔ34 homozygous exhibit no obvious defects in the numbers of either sensory organ precursor cells or supraalar neurons in third instar larval wing discs, as compared to controls.

Homozygotes or hemizygotes survive to adulthood and exhibit a 100% loss of wing vein L5 at 25[o]C. At 30[o]C, shamsΔ34/Df(3R)BSC494 escapers exhibit partial loss of multiple wing veins, and the ocellar and postvertical bristles in the head are lost.

Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

The wing margin loss and wing vein thickening observed in N55e11 hemizygous males are partially suppressed by shamsΔ34 heterozygosity and (more efficiently) homozygosity; suppression by the combination of XxyltΔcds homozygosity and shamsΔ34 heterozygosity is more efficient than by either single mutant.

The third instar larval wing discs of shamsΔ34, O-fut1R245AKI double homozygotes raised at 25[o]C of temperature exhibit increased numbers of both sensory organ precursor cells and supraalar neurons, as compared to controls.

Comments

The wing vein loss phenotype of shamsΔ34/Df(3R)BSC494 animals can be rescued by shams+tLa, shamsT:Ivir\HA1 or Scer\GAL4nub-AC-62-mediated expression of shamsScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1.

The loss of ocellar and postvertical bristles in the head of shamsΔ34/Df(3R)BSC494 animals is rescued by shams+tLa.
