Overexpression of Arl2Q70L.Scer\UAS driven by Scer\GAL4insc.PU leads to dramatic depletion of neuroblasts in third instar larval central brains; overexpression in both type I (Scer\GAL4ase.neuro) and II (Scer\GAL4wor.PA and Scer\GAL80ase.PN) neuroblast lineages leads to neuroblast depletion.
Overexpression of Arl2Q70L.Scer\UAS driven by Scer\GAL4insc.PU leads to more abundant microtubules in interphase neuroblasts compared to controls and around half of Arl2Q70L.Scer\UAS neuroblasts form monopolar spindles; in a microtubule regrowth assay (after ice treatment), the majority of metaphase neuroblasts show more abundant microtubules emanating from centrosomes and distance between centrosomes is increased, compared to controls. After 2min recovery after ice treatment, most mutant metaphase centrosomes contain only one large centrosome.
