dnr12-133/dnr12-133 flies show age-dependent neurodegeneration (presence of vacuolar lesions in the brain at day 15 that are not seen in controls or at day 5 or 10, becoming more pronounced in size and frequency at day 25 and 35); dnr12-133/+ heterozygotes are similar to wild type. dnr12-133/Df(2R)X58-12 flies show age-dependent neurodegeneration (significant compared to controls at day 10 onwards). dnr12-133/dnr12-133 flies have a significantly reduced lifespan compared to wild type or heterozygotes at 29[o]C. dnr12-133/dnr12-133 fly brains do not show signs of elevated apoptosis (measured at 20 and 25 days old) compared to controls.
