Early third instar larvae expressing Zzzz\HRe.Scer\UAS.cBa.T:Avic\GFP-YFP under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu immediately cease to move on exposure to activating green light (530-560 nm) and remain paralysed. After a 10 second recovery phase under blue light, the larvae resume crawling, and after 20 seconds their peristaltic movements are indistinguishable from those before exposure to green light.
Larvae expressing Zzzz\HRe.Scer\UAS.cBa.T:Avic\GFP-YFP under the control of "BL-Gal4" (a combination of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu, Scer\GAL80tsh-GAL80 and Scer\GAL80Cha.PK) do not show a change in either the number of peristaltic waves or the timing of contractions during the waves on exposure to activating green light.
Third instar larvae expressing Zzzz\HRe.Scer\UAS.cBa.T:Avic\GFP-YFP under the control of "BL-Gal4" show defective chemotactic behaviour on exposure to activating green light. The fraction of larvae able to reach the peak of an olfactory gradient is reduced, and the larvae do not show an increase in the number pause turns on reaching the peak of the gradient, in contrast to controls.
