Inhibition (using Hsap\KCNJ2UAS.EGFP) of the combined set of the Scer\FLP1276B subset (with excised Scer\GAL80αTub84B.PG) of Scer\GAL40098-G4 cells and the Scer\GAL4NP0534 cells, in combination with a Gal80[ts] transgene to restrict expression to the adult stage, in females significantly increases proboscis extension in response to bitter solution and significantly increases bitter solution consumption, compared to controls, but overconsumption is significantly reduced compared to inactivation of Scer\FLP1276B-expressing Scer\GAL40098-G4 cells alone.
Inhibition (using Ctet\TeTxLCTNT.UAS) of Scer\GAL4NP0534 cells in adult females significantly reduces ingestion rate and volume per pump during fluid ingestion, with no effect on pump frequency, compared to controls; cibarial filling and emptying times are not greatly altered, compared to controls, but significantly more fluid is pumped back to the proboscis, rather than to the esophagus.
Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 32[o]C) of a subset of Scer\GAL4NP0534 cells (restricted using Scer\GAL80tsh-GAL80) in adult females does not cause any obvious cibarial pumping phenotype, compared to controls.
