TRF1
general transcription factor - cell type specific TATA-binding protein - ubiquitiously expressed but upregulated in the CNS and the gonads - the majority of Trf substitutes for Tbp in Pol III transcription in complex with Brf - the rest of Trf initiates transcription of a small subset of PolII-transcribed genes regulating fly fertility and nervous system function

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).
Comment: maternally deposited
Trf transcripts are detected in primary spermatocytes in the testis of adult males and in a subset of cells in the dorsal medial region of the embryonic central nervous system.

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
Trf protein can differentially mediate activation by some enhancer proteins but not others.
Locus was identified through two independently derived allelic P{lacW} insertions, which have a "Shaker-like" mutant phenotype. Correlation of mutant phenotype with pattern of expression of Trf suggests that mutant phenotype is consequence of mutant Trf function.
Trf is a sequence specific DNA binding protein related to Tbp, whose expression is limited to embryonic CNS and primary spermatocytes of adult males.
