Gene Summary
Odorant receptor 67d (Or67d) encodes a member of the odorant receptor family of ligand gated ion channels required for detection of the pheromone cVA by olfactory neurons. The neurons expressing Or67d are fru positive and mediate sexually dimorphic social behaviors including courtship and mating, aggregation and aggression. Gene Group (FlyBase)
ODORANT RECEPTORS -
Insect odorant receptors (ORs) are a family of chemoreceptors activated by volatile chemicals. ORs form heteromeric complexes, believed to function as non-selective cation channels, comprising an OR and the co-receptor Orco. ORs are expressed in the dendrites of subsets of olfactory neurons in the antenna and maxillary palp. (Adapted from FBrf0168007 and FBrf0220463).
Protein Function (UniProtKB)
Plays a role in detection and sensitivity to pheromones and signal transduction of the fatty-acid-derived male pheromone 11-cis vaccenyl acetate (cVA). Acts in concert with Snmp and lush to capture cVA molecules on the surface of Or67d expressing olfactory dendrites and facilitate their transfer to the odorant-receptor Orco complex. Necessary to mediate behavioral responses to cVA by regulating both male and female mating behavior. Activation of Or67d neurons by cVA inhibits courtship of other males, whereas in females their activation promotes receptivity to other males. May form a complex with Orco to form odorant-sensing units, providing sensitive and prolonged odorant signaling and calcium permeability.
(UniProt, Q9VT92)
Summary (Interactive Fly)

7 TM odorant receptor - courtship behavior - the male-specific pheromone 11-cVA acts through Or67d to regulate both male and female mating behavior

Structure
Protein 3D structure   (Predicted by AlphaFold)   (AlphaFold entry Q9VT92)

If you don't see a structure in the viewer, refresh your browser.
Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

                  Other Comments

The male-specific pheromone 11-cis-vaccenyl acetate acts through the Or67d receptor to regulate both male and female mating behavior; inhibiting mating behavior in males but promoting mating behavior in females.
